In September 2020, Bradford District Care Foundation Trust (BDCFT) recognised staff were feeling isolated and disconnected from their team when transitioning to working from home due to the pandemic. Remote work can often lead to a lack of face-to-face interaction and a feeling of being cut off from the rest of the team.

The trust took took action and formed a steering group to address the issue of supporting remote workers. This proactive approach to addressing the challenges that come with working remotely and a commitment to supporting the wellbeing of employees created Lively Up Yourself.

BDCFT explored new and innovative ways to support remote workers and promote their wellbeing. They understood why it's important to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances, and offered new programmes and initiatives to support this.

Lively Up Yourself would love to connect with other NHS Trusts to expand the reach of our wellness initiative for staff across the UK.

Lively Up Yourself programme is contributor to the NHS People Plan and working towards improving the experience of working in the NHS for everyone. Wellbeing-focused sessions can play a crucial role in supporting the mental health and resilience of NHS staff, who face significant challenges and pressures in their work.

By offering online sessions that focus on wellbeing, the Lively Up Yourself programme can help staff to develop the skills and strategies they need to manage stress, build resilience, and maintain a positive work-life balance. This, in turn, can lead to improved job satisfaction, reduced burnout and turnover, and better outcomes for patients.

It's important to recognise that investing in the wellbeing of NHS staff is not just the right thing to do, but it's also critical to the overall success and sustainability of the healthcare system. By prioritising the wellbeing of the workforce, the NHS can ensure that staff are equipped to provide the high-quality care that patients deserve, now and in the future.

  • Ways to build resilience
  • Prioritisation of self-care
  • Connection with like-minded colleagues
